But really, this here becomes the rub. The neverending story. I fight this all the time. This is why I start with programmatic release planning with probabilistic dates for content specific releases. Once you start down that path and use both burnups and burndowns, it is much easier to contain and control a team and a release. Most CFOs are not willing to suspend disbelief and have heard so much bad stories that it is indeed a hard sell – this is why we need to talk to the CEO instead. Take a look at this: CEO to CIO and back. It is from my other blog and rather than repeat the thoughts here, go there and take a gander. It was a fairly cogent way of expressing the thoughts.
